Independent Certification Authority

A mark for specialty food made with proof.

Artisanal Foundation defines, verifies, and enforces the Certified Artisanal™ standard for specialty food products. Every certification is evidence-based, publicly recorded, and subject to revocation.

Every mark carries a QR code linked directly to its product's public registry record. Scan it, verify it, trust it.

Serving retailers, consumers, and producers through documented criteria, independent assessment, and registry-backed transparency.

The Problem

The term “artisanal” is unregulated and unverified.

There is no common definition, no audit mechanism, and no consequence for misuse. Mass-produced goods and genuinely small-batch, heritage-process products carry the same unverified claim.

Retailers cannot distinguish documented practice from marketing language. Consumers have no reliable signal. Producers who meet a genuine standard have no mechanism to prove it.

Artisanal Foundation exists to correct this through defined standards, independent verification, and enforceable certification.

Certification Criteria

Three Standards.

Certification may be granted based on conformity with one, two, or all three pillars. Compliance is assessed on the basis of documented evidence, not aspiration or self-declaration.

01

Small Batch

Production must occur in discrete, individually identifiable batches with unique identifiers. The default Small Batch threshold is 10,000 consumer units or eight (8) consecutive production hours. Records must be contemporaneous and retained for a minimum of 36 months.

02

Heritage

The production method must have been in documented use in the category for at least twenty (20) years. Aesthetic or nominal references to tradition are insufficient. The heritage method must be consistently applied across the certified product/SKU.

03

Crafted

Human judgment must materially influence the production outcome at one or more critical stages. The intervention must be skilled, intentional, and documented. Automated processes with cosmetic manual steps do not qualify.
